Chamber Finds Parental Involvement Lacking in Schools
Published: Aug 30, 2006
An ongoing study of public education in the Capital Region finds that while Baton Rouge area schools compare favorably with other systems in terms of teacher quality and student-teacher ratio, it lags behind in non-school issues, such as parental involvement. Stephen Moret, president and chief executive officer of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, which sponsored the study, says this shows the area should aspire to be a "learning community" where formal and informal education are embraced and lifelong learning is a goal. This is the third part of a five-part study the Chamber is releasing. The study will conclude with a series of potential reform initiatives to improve public schools and student performance.
